New Start's Adult Services deliver quality accommodation and support provisions for vulnerable men, women and families with the aim of making a positive difference in the lives of some of the most disadvantaged individuals in our society.
New Start believes that everybody deserves to live in safe, secure and needs-appropriate housing and feel enabled or empowered to fulfil their potential.
All our adult services are delivered in Psychologically Informed Environments (PIE). Many clients we work with have trouble managing their emotions, are often impulsive and do not consider the consequences of their actions. Some may be withdrawn, isolated and reluctant to engage or exhibit anti-social behaviour. The purpose of a PIE is to help staff understand where these behaviours are coming from and therefore, work more creatively and constructively with challenging behaviours
By integrating PIE throughout our service delivery, we can help clients to gain a greater understanding of their own behaviour and, in doing so, improve their ability to establish and maintain relationships. New Start are constantly working to improve and refine therapeutic approaches used in these Psychologically Informed Environments, so we can demonstrate to the clients themselves that a change is being made.
Support Practitioners who work with clients accessing our adult services receive training in Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT), a programme used to look at the way someone feels, thinks, and acts, and the underlying reasons for this behaviour. CAT is based on forming trusting relationships with clients, so we can work with them in exploring any difficulties they face, and consider ways of positively changing their behaviour and outlook to make their lives better. It is a programme which can be tailored to each Service User’s needs, identifying the behaviours negatively affecting their lives, and providing them with manageable goals for change based on these patterns.
To access this service applicants will be required to complete New Start's internal Referral Form by downloading the form or by contacting our support team on 0151 708 7103.
